voxcivitas?
Welcome to voxcivitas. My name is Jim Geasor and I teach English Composition and English Literature at a community college in New York City. During the seven years I have had the privilege of teaching, I have read some very interesting essays and memoirs by my students. In the spring of 2012, I began making select student essays available to the public on one of my five personal teaching websites, 2thirteen.com. Within a few weeks I noticed there was quite a bit of online "traffic", or visitors, and many of the essays were being read by the public. Since that time, and with the permission of my students, I have been publishing the thoughts, talents and concerns of my students here on this new website. We hope you enjoy voxcivitas.com! |

Some teachers have requested permission to use content on this site, and permission is granted. If you have your own teaching website and want to link to works on this site, your site must be a non-commercial website. (A non-commercial website does not draw revenue or allow advertising of any kind.) You may not put any works from voxcivitas on your site (copy and paste) without express written permission. See disclaimer below in the footer for more information. I have used many of the essays on this website in my own English composition courses and the students enjoy the works and find them helpful for generating ideas of their own when discussing and preparing personal essays, memoirs and poems. I have lesson plans that incorporate, thematically, many of the works on this site. The lesson plans are for AP high school English and college freshmen composition courses. E-mail the address below to request free lesson plans. Educators only, please. |
news
New memoirs by Kaetlyn Gassert and Caige Moran and new poems by Sabrina Neptune and Bryan Torres have been added. The music and literature project links are still under construction. Copyright and permissions have been approved for some works and we look to have some of the songs and videos uploaded by late March or early April. I have also learned that one of my new students is an accomplished classical guitar player. Perhaps we can get him on board as well! |
